The driver weather handbook

All guides

A station dot is only one part of the picture. These independent guides explain how to check weather along your route, resolve a station label and document a weather-affected block. No account is needed to read them.

Read radar before your route

Check the frame time, separate observations from forecasts and look beyond the pickup pin. Includes a worked planning example and official weather references.

Wrong station type?

A fulfillment site can also host Flex pickups. Check the address, save a personal type or send a classification correction to support.

When weather affects a block

Know what the tracker cannot confirm, which records help and how to ask Driver Support a clear question about your own block.

How this tracker works

What the status means

For every station the server gathers the active weather reports and advisories for the surrounding area (started, not yet expired, not cancelled) and ranks them by severity. When the most severe report is at the red level, weather reports indicate a closed station, shown as a red dot. With nothing active, the station has no local weather advisories.

Weather advisories near AMZ stations means a weather advisory is active in the area, such as lightning nearby or a wind advisory, without a report indicating a closure. Advisories and closures are always shown in the tracker's own plain wording.

Lightning and tornadoes

The server keeps the last 30 minutes of lightning reports from national lightning databases and flags each station with lightning reported within 6 miles (and, more loosely, within 10 miles). Cloud-to-cloud flashes are ignored. The map layer shows the last 30 minutes, each strike fading as it ages, and the slider under the map replays them minute by minute. The all-clear time is 30 minutes after the latest report inside 6 miles.

A tornado icon appears above a station inside an active tornado warning polygon from the National Weather Service or Environment Canada, or when a tornado warning covers the area.

Flexer reports

Signed-in Flexers can report a station closed or open from its details; the page then flags that station as reported closed or open for 30 minutes. Free accounts can report one station every 10 minutes. Reports sit beside the weather status; they don't change it.

Sources and limits

  • Warehouse and station locations are obtained from Warehouse.ninja.
  • Lightning data and strikes come from national lightning databases.
  • Wind, air quality and tornado information comes from national weather databases such as the National Weather Service and, for Canada, Environment Canada.
  • Station security incidents (“Something is going on at the station. It might be closed.”) are based on police dispatch and local news reports.
  • Everything is computed on this tracker's server from those public sources. Your browser talks to this tracker, to the ad network while ads are shown, and to Google Maps or PayPal if you tap those buttons.
  • This is an unofficial view of public weather information. Station leadership makes the final call.

Most closed in the last 30 days

The stations weather reports closed most often in the last 30 days in the United States, from the tracker's own record:

  • WZN2, Flagstaff, AZ: 28 closures
  • WFM096, Aventura, FL: 27 closures
  • VFL3, Tamarac, FL: 26 closures
  • DVB5, Hollywood, FL: 26 closures
  • WFM60010, Plantation, FL: 25 closures
  • C074, Pembroke Pines, FL: 25 closures
  • WFM088, Coral Springs, FL: 24 closures
  • WZN4, Show Low, AZ: 24 closures
  • C072, Davie, FL: 23 closures
  • WFM725, Davie, FL: 23 closures

Look up any station in the station directory, read the closures of November 7, 2026 in the closure archive, see how often the warnings came true in the accuracy report, or read the guides for drivers.

For the method in more depth, read the guides for drivers. Every closure the tracker has recorded is listed day by day in the closure archive, and how often its closing-soon warnings came true is in the accuracy report.
